Genetics
Bio Alzheimer
Individualized prevention based on genetics.
- Assesses the presence of the APOE e4 allele
- Cheek swab collection in 5 minutes
- Basis for a prevention program
A genetic test that assesses the presence of the APOE e4 variant, associated with an increased risk of developing late-onset Alzheimer's disease. It is not a diagnosis, but a tool for building an individualized prevention program.
Why assess the APOE gene
The APOE gene contains the instructions for producing apolipoprotein E. This protein, which is also made up of lipids, belongs to the lipoprotein class and is responsible for transporting cholesterol in the bloodstream. Maintaining normal cholesterol levels is essential for preventing disorders that affect several systems of the body.
Three versions of the protein have been described: the e2, e3 and e4 alleles. The most common form in most populations is the e3 allele. The e4 allele increases an individual's risk of developing late-onset Alzheimer's disease and is related to the increase in amyloid plaques involved in the origin of the disease.
What the test tells you
Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's have a multifactorial origin: genes and environmental factors contribute to their development. Bio Alzheimer assesses the presence of APOE e4, a variant that increases risk but does not represent a diagnosis.
Knowing this result is an extremely important tool for preventive clinical care, making it possible to design an individualized prevention program with nutrition, supplementation and lifestyle habits.
How it's done
- Collection at the practice, with a swab of cheek cells
- Total collection time: about 5 minutes
- Laboratory analysis by Biogenetika
- Report delivered approximately 1 month after collection
Important: The presence of the APOE e4 allele indicates increased risk and does not constitute a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. The result must be interpreted by a qualified professional.
